IMPROVED EFFICIENCY

Research and development, conducted as part of Amway’s evolving Life Cycle Management approach, led to the reduction of the eSpring™ system’s plastic content by 51%, its global warming potential by 46% and its energy use by 46%, compared to the previous model.

The UV lamp is powered by new wireless inductive coupling technology, preventing the bulb from drawing energy from the unit’s power supply except when the tap is switched on.

When multiplied by the number of units sold, and compared to the power consumption of an equivalent number of the previous Japanese eSpring systems, the energy saved is enough to supply and power a town of 10,000 people for an entire year!

But this improved efficiency doesn’t come with a reduction in performance. Each eSpring unit still delivers exceptionally clean, great-tasting water.

FEWER HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS

The entire eSpring unit—not just the electronics and circuit board—complies with European Union Directive 2002/95/EC.

This directive restricts the use of certain hazardous substances (RoHS). Per RoHS, each eSpring unit does not exceed the maximum allowed concentration of six banned substances: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, poly-brominated byphynels (PBB), or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).

The carbon block filter also uses less carbon than other pressed carbon filters by maximising the filtration surface area. Instead of coal, the carbon comes from a renewable source of coconut shells.

GREEN BY DESIGN

Each eSpring unit is designed to use significantly fewer raw materials by incorporating modular components. This modular approach reduces the number of parts that may need to be replaced in the unit, while extending the life of the overall system. If one component needs replacing, the entire unit doesn’t need to be wasted.

Wireless inductive coupling technology also reduces corrosion and potential service issues.

The eSpring system is simpler to manufacture, less expensive to operate, more reliable and longer lasting.

BOTTLED WATER AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Plastic bottles generate a huge amount of waste, creating a major environmental problem.

By switching from bottled water to an in-home eSpring system, families can reduce plastic use by as much as 99% across the lifecycle of the product, according to Amway’s LCA (Life Cycle Assessment).
