How will I know when to change the cartridge?

You will know just by looking at the LED display on the unit. It shows you at a glance the remaining life of the cartridge. When it is time to change, it makes an audible sound and the display flashes in red.

Can I continue to use the unit without changing the cartridge when required?

The cartridge’s life is based on the ability of the carbon block to trap contaminants. Once the carbon block is full, it won’t be able to trap new contaminants.

If left unchanged, there is a chance contaminants already accumulated in the filter may detach back into the water. This could mean that the water running through your filter ends up even worse than before.

Also the life of the UV lamp may be depleted, even before the carbon block, depending on your usage pattern. Therefore, it is recommended to heed the warning messages and change the cartridge promptly to maintain clean, pure water.

Will the carbon filter remove all contaminants?

No system can be 100% effective. Activated carbon readily absorbs organic carbon-based compounds. However inorganic compounds such as iron, lime scale, nitrates, minerals such as calcium and magnesium, or soluble heavy metals, are harder for it to absorb.

Do carbon filters breed bacteria?

Bacteria can grow in a carbon filter overnight or during periods of inactivity. This is true for virtually any filter in the market, even those treated with silver.

This is why the eSpring Water Treatment System uses ultraviolet light to destroy any harmful bacteria in the water after it leaves the carbon filter.

Does the eSpring Water Treatment System remove fluoride?

The eSpring Water System does not remove fluoride from water because fluoride is not naturally attracted to carbon.

Are both the carbon block and UV light really necessary?

Carbon filtration is used with varying degrees of effectiveness in many water treatment options. However we don’t think it goes far enough.

That is why we developed a dual cartridge — containing both our patented carbon block filter and a UV light — for a double whammy of purification technology capable of catching far more than most filter systems can.

The carbon block filter removes compounds, particulates and contaminants. Meanwhile, the UV light destroys potential microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses.

What is so special about the UV lamp?

Ultraviolet light destroys microorganisms without the use of chemicals. The UV lamp in the eSpring cartridge produces a specific wavelength of light that is destructive to the RNA and DNA of microorganisms. The light has to be the right intensity and the water must be exposed to the light for a specific amount of time to properly dose the water.

Can water damage the UV bulb?

No. The UV bulb is completely isolated from the water path.

Can I use the eSpring Water Treatment System on well/bore water?

Absolutely. The eSpring Water Treatment System was designed for use on any potable (drinkable) water sources, including municipal supplies or potable well/bore water. If you do use well/bore water, we recommend having your water tested regularly.

However, eSpring is not intended for use on lake, river or other untreated water.

Can treated water be stored?

Yes. To prevent treated water from becoming contaminated once more, simply store in a clean, airtight container. Properly refrigerated, treated water may be stored for up to one week.

Does the eSpring Water Treatment System change the taste of water?

Pure water is tasteless. Any taste you may experience is due to whatever else may be in the water. The eSpring Water Treatment System does not remove sulfur, but it will remove many substances that negatively affect the taste, odour and clarity of water, such as particulates or chlorine.
